I am a new mother and I am marvelling in the process of birthing and the ways in which I was reborn. The experience of allowing my body to birth and then allowing my motherhood to emerge has been the most powerful initiation I have experienced thus far. Even more intense than my journey into High Priestess, which was a startling challenge. How can we honor these initiations more? How can we add meaning and depth to our experience?

Re: Giving Birth as Initiation into Life

I reckon the most meaningful way to honor one's initiation into motherhood is by treating parenthood as its own form of priestesshood - recognizing that your child's soul has chosen you to guide it through its own earliest initiatic experiences in this lifetime. -

Re: Giving Birth as Initiation into Life
Sat, June 19, 2004 - 2:02 PMwow, so well said nicky!
it has been said, and i beleive it to be true, that wemen are most blessed with the experience of tatal reprogramming on all neural circuits with the profound experience of child birth.
whereas most reprogramming, initiations, or brainwashing only go as deep as the first two or three, birth goes all the way.
i think it's interesting that many men have said that going to war and fighting for your life and killing is the closest thing men will have to the intensity of experience of giving birth. while this seems most distastefull to me, i could see how it would have a similar breadth of impact on the neurological level.
congratulations,
Doshi
